Saudi Arabia Rain Prayer: Namaz offered across the country for rain in Saudi Arabia, crowd gathered in Mecca and Medina

Istasqa (rain prayer) was offered across the country in Saudi Arabia on Thursday, 12 February 2026. Thousands of people took part in mosques in all 13 regions of the country following the appeal of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. Its purpose was to pray to Allah for merciful rain during the drought. According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), a large number of citizens and expatriates were present in mosques and open grounds during the prayers.

Namaz time and main place

Namaz was offered at 7:08 am in the Grand Mosque of Mecca and at 7:12 am in the Prophet’s Mosque of Medina. In the rest of the country, this process started about 15 minutes after sunrise. The Ministry of Islamic Affairs had completed cleaning and other arrangements in more than 12,000 mosques and Eidgahs for the special day.

Method of Namaz and advice of the royal court

There are two Rakats in Istasaka prayer. Seven Takbirs are said in the first Rakat and six Takbirs are said in the second Rakat. After the namaz was over, the Imam gave the sermon and a collective prayer was offered. The royal court had requested people to participate in prayers as well as to repent, ask for forgiveness and do charity. The governor and other senior officials also offered prayers along with the general public at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh.
