America has approved a huge defense deal with Gulf countries and Israel. On Friday, January 30, the US State Department officially informed about this deal, the total value of which is approximately $15.67 billion. Under this decision, advanced air-to-air missiles will be provided to Saudi Arabia and combat helicopters to Israel. This announcement has been made after a high-level meeting between Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman and US officials.

What will Saudi Arabia get in this deal?

The largest share has been kept for Saudi Arabia in this defense agreement. America has approved the sale of 730 Patriot missiles (PAC-3 MSE) to Saudi Arabia. The price of this entire package is said to be around $9 billion.

The main function of these missiles is to eliminate air attacks in the air itself. Saudi Arabia will use it to strengthen its security and prevent drone or missile threats. Its purpose is to ensure the security of American and local forces in the Gulf region.

What is the special package for Israel?

The total value of the arms package given to Israel is approximately $6.67 billion. It is divided into four different parts. The most important among these are 30 Apache attack helicopters (AH-64E), which are also called ‘flying tanks’. Their value alone is 3.8 billion dollars.

3,250 Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTV) which will be used for logistics. Power packs for the Armored Personal Carrier. Light utility helicopters are also included in this list.

Now what will be the further process?

According to American rules, after the approval of the State Department, this sale will now be monitored by Congress. Under the Arms Export Control Act, Congress has 30 days to consider the deal and raise objections.

The work of making these weapons will mainly be done by big companies like Boeing and Lockheed Martin. Democratic Representative Gregory Meeks has criticized the administration over the Israel portion, but the main focus of the Saudi Arabia deal is on enhancing security.
