The 7.4 magnitude earthquake occurred near the Kamachatka Peninsula in Russia on Saturday. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred 111 km from the city of Petropavalovsk-Kampachatski and about 39 km deep.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said that dangerous waves could arise in coastal areas up to 300 km from the center of the earthquake. Initially USGS stated its intensity 7.5, which was later reduced to 7.4.
Earlier in July, there was a huge earthquake of 8.8 magnitude near Kamachatka area, causing waves of 4 meters high tsunami. At that time people were asked to go to safe places from Hawaii to Japan.
About 2 million people in Japan were ordered to move to altitude areas. This was the largest earthquake since 2011, when more than 15,000 people were killed in a 9.1 magnitude earthquake in Japan.
