America’s alliance plan and China’s answer

US President Donald Trump has proposed a coalition of seven countries for security in the Strait of Hormuz. In this plan, a demand has been made to send navies from China, France, Japan, South Korea and Britain. China has expressed disagreement on this. Chinese media has said that America wants to impose the risk of its conflict on other countries.

President Trump has also made it clear that if China does not help in opening this waterway, he can postpone his visit to Beijing this month. America says that China imports about 90 percent of its oil needs through this route.

Iran claims that this route is open for international ships. Iran has banned only American and Israeli ships. However, in view of the security threat, the movement of commercial ships here has reduced to almost zero by March 14. Currently, about 400 ships are waiting for their turn in the Gulf of Oman.

Japan and Australia have issued statements on March 16 regarding joining the alliance. Both these countries have made it clear that they have no plans to send navy to this area.

China’s emphasis on peace and diplomacy

China’s Foreign Ministry has asked all parties to immediately stop military action. China believes that this could cause huge losses to global trade. Recently, China, Russia and Iran have jointly conducted ‘Maritime Security Belt 2026’ military exercise, the aim of which is to strengthen maritime security.

According to experts, China will adopt the path of diplomacy instead of joining America’s military alliance. Stimson Center expert Yun Sun believes that China can take the initiative to keep the trade route open by talking to Iran on this issue.
