Strait of Hormuz Incident: Thai ship caught fire due to Iran’s attack, 3 crew members missing and government sought answers

The Thai government has officially demanded an apology from Iran. On March 11, 2026, a Thai ship was attacked by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz. After this attack, a massive fire broke out in the engine room of the ship and the crew members had to abandon the ship to save their lives. After this incident, Oman’s Navy immediately launched a rescue operation and saved many people.

What happened in the attack and what is the name of the ship?

This incident occurred in the Strait of Hormuz, about 11 nautical miles north of Oman. The name of the commercial ship which was attacked is Mayuree Naree. It is a Thailand-flagged cargo ship operated by Precious Shipping Company. According to the information, the ship was attacked by two drones or missiles, due to which there was a lot of damage in the rear part. The fire has been extinguished but due to security reasons the rescue team has not yet been able to go inside the ship.

What is the condition of the crew members?

There were a total of 23 Thai crew members on board the ship. After the attack there was an atmosphere of chaos.

Oman’s Navy has safely rescued 20 crew members and sent them to Khasab. 3 crew members are still missing and are feared trapped in the engine room. Due to flight ban in this area, the crew is being brought back by road.

What do Iran and Thailand have to say?

Iran’s IRGC has taken responsibility for this attack. They say that the ship ignored the warning and tried to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without permission. On the other hand, Thailand’s Foreign Ministry has summoned Iran’s Ambassador on March 12. Thailand has strongly protested against this violence happening on commercial ships. In view of security, Thailand has ordered all its other ships to leave the Strait of Hormuz immediately.
