Ukraine has developed cheap and indigenous drone interceptors to counter Iranian Shahed drones in the war. These drones are now being used to shoot down enemy drones in the air. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has officially informed that at the request of America, Ukraine has sent its special team and interceptor drones to protect American military bases in Jordan. With this new technology, the huge cost of missile systems like Patriot costing millions of dollars is being saved.

How drone technology is saving crores of rupees of expenditure
According to the report of Al Jazeera, this drone-on-drone defense system is a very cheap and effective option. The price of an Iranian Shahed drone ranges between 35 thousand to 1.5 lakh dollars and it takes 1 to 4 million dollars to fire a traditional Patriot missile. In comparison, Ukraine’s interceptor drones can be made for just 1,000 to 5,000 dollars. According to the data of February 2026, 70 percent of Shahed drones over Kiev have been destroyed by these interceptors.
Ukraine’s new strategy in the Middle East
Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces are successfully using these interceptors in war. President Zelenskyy recently proposed that Ukraine could send its best drone operators to help allies in the Middle East. In return, it is expected to put diplomatic pressure on Russia for a ceasefire. Apart from this, the Defense Ministry of Ukraine has also started a new system called Mission Control to track the purchase of drones and their results in war.
