The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday announced the names of three candidates for the elections to be held on October 24 for four Rajya Sabha seats in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
These include party’s Jammu and Kashmir unit president Satpal Sharma and two other candidates Ghulam Mohammad Mir and Rakesh Mahajan.
The Election Commission has issued three separate notifications for elections on four seats.
Based on its numbers in the Assembly, the National Conference-Congress alliance has a lead on three seats, while the BJP has a lead on one seat.
This decision of BJP to contest the elections will make the elections more exciting as it is expected that it will try to woo the MLAs of other parties to garner support for its candidates.
The National Conference, the ruling party in Jammu and Kashmir, on Friday announced the names of its three candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections and said that discussions are on with the Congress for the fourth seat.
