The new Tata Sierra will be launched in petrol-diesel engine as well as electric version and it will compete with cars like Creta.
The next big launch from Tata Motors is the Sierra SUV and it was recently spotted testing in different areas. First it was shown as a concept and later its almost production model was revealed. It is expected to be launched soon in the Indian market and will be offered in both electric and petrol/diesel versions.
Although Tata Motors has not released the official launch timeline, both variants of the Sierra are expected to hit the market in the next 3-4 months. In the last month of this year, Tata is planning a new launch and it could be petrol version of Harrier and Safari. With the Sierra, Tata is clearly preparing to give a tough competition to the established midsize SUV companies.
The special thing is that Tata has kept almost the same design in both the electric and petrol/diesel versions of Sierra. That means there will be only minor changes in both the models. The SUV is expected to get a closed grille panel, a straight and bold front end, a slightly sloping bonnet, sleek headlights connected to a full-width LED light bar, and a strong bumper design, which will give it a powerful look.
At the rear, thin LED light strip, integrated roof spoiler, shark fin antenna, high-mounted stop lamp will be seen, which will complete the premium look of the SUV. It will compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Honda Elevate, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and the upcoming Renault Duster and Nissan Tecton, among others.
The internal combustion version of the new Tata Sierra will likely be powered by a new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine that will generate 168 PS of power and 280 Nm of torque. Along with this, Tata is also expected to provide a 2.0-litre diesel engine with around 170 PS of power and 350 Nm of peak torque. Both engines will be available with manual and automatic gearboxes.
On the other hand, the electric version will have a lot of similarities with the Harrier EV as it will be available with two battery options. It is not yet clear whether it will have dual motor setup or not, but its range is being claimed to be more than 500 km. Features will include a triple screen layout with a center touchscreen, driver display and a front passenger screen, level 2 ADAS system, 360-degree camera unit, ventilated front seats, automatic climate control, powered driver seat, drive modes, flat-bottom steering wheel, alloy wheels, etc.
