Delhi Fire Service received 269 calls regarding fire on Diwali night. An official gave this information on Tuesday.
However, there was no report of any major incident including loss of life or injury in the fire-related incidents, the official said.
A senior Delhi Fire Service (DFS) official said the department was on high alert throughout the festival season and all fire stations and quick response teams were deployed across the city.
“We received 269 calls regarding fire till midnight,” the officer said. Fortunately, there was no major incident.” He said that most of the information received on the phone was related to small fires caused by firecrackers and lamps. DFS had already canceled leaves of all its employees and ensured that all vehicles and fire fighting equipment were checked and kept ready for immediate action.
The official said that detailed planning was already done to ensure the safety of the public during the festivals.
“Delhi Fire Service plays a vital role in tackling fire-related incidents during Diwali and ensuring the safety of citizens,” the official said, adding that last year the DFS had received more than 200 calls on Diwali night.
