New Delhi, October 22 (IANS). OpenAI has launched ChatGPAT Atlas, a new AI-powered web browser designed to redefine the way users use the Internet.
Based entirely on ChatGPT, this browser aims to merge artificial intelligence with traditional web browsing, delivering a seamless and interactive online experience.
The company says Atlas is now available globally for macOS users and will soon be available on Windows, iOS, and Android.
Basically Atlas places ChatGPT directly inside the browser instead of adding it as an extension.
The new tab page serves as both a chat window and a traditional search bar, allowing users to browse websites, get AI-generated answers, and regular search results all in one place.
Users can switch between links, images, videos and news without leaving the chat interface. The biggest feature of ChatGPT Atlas is its optional browser memory.
The company says that users will have complete control over the content remembered by AI. They can also clear data and browse privately.
By default, browsing content will not be used for model training unless users choose to opt-in.
Another big upgrade is the introduction of ‘Agent Mode’, which allows ChatGPT to take actions directly inside the browser.
For example, it can research topics, open tabs, extract data, and even interact with a service like Instacart to create a shopping cart from recipes.
Product lead Adam Fry explained that this means that Atlas can now help in making reservations or booking flights and even editing any document.
There is a feature called Cursor Chat in the browser, which allows users to highlight any text. For example, regarding email, the user can get the facility to rewrite and refine it through ChatGPT.
Altman described Atlas as a step toward a new way of using the Internet, where the chat experience becomes a natural part of Web navigation.
“We hope that the chat experience in a web browser can be a great example of the way people use the Internet in the future,” he said.
