Calling democracy an ‘external’ concept to Pakistan, India has called on it to stop serious human rights violations in the areas under illegal occupation.
Responding to the Pakistani envoy’s comments in the open debate on the topic ‘United Nations Organization: Looking into the Future’ organized in the UN Security Council on Friday, India’s Permanent Representative and Ambassador to the UN Parvataneni Harish said, “The people of Jammu and Kashmir exercise their fundamental rights in accordance with India’s democratic traditions and constitutional framework.” “We certainly know that these (democratic) concepts are foreign to Pakistan,” he said.
The envoy said that Jammu and Kashmir “was, is and will always be an integral and inseparable part of India.”
Harish said, “We call on Pakistan to stop the gross human rights violations in the illegally occupied areas, where the people are in open rebellion against Pakistan’s military occupation, repression, cruelty and illegal exploitation of resources.”
