New Delhi, October 28 (IANS). Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said on Tuesday that the development of electronics component manufacturing in India will increase employment opportunities in the electronics sector.
Giving information in a post on social media platform X, Union Minister Vaishnav said, “Smartphone exports set a new record of $ 1.8 billion in September 2025.”
He further said that electronics items now stand third in the list of all goods exported from India. Growth in the electronics sector will create thousands of new jobs due to the increase in electronics component manufacturing in India.
In the recent report of India Cellular and Electronics Association, it was informed that India’s smartphone exports have increased by 95 percent to cross $ 1.8 billion compared to the same period last year.
Regarding this continuous increase in exports, ICEA Chairman Pankaj Mohindroo had said that this performance shows that the foundation of India’s mobile phone manufacturing ecosystem is getting stronger.
Earlier, Union Minister Vaishnav announced the approval of the first phase of 7 projects worth Rs 5,532 crore under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS). Under the scheme, components worth Rs 36,559 crore will be produced and more than 5,100 direct jobs will be created.
According to the information given by the Ministry of Electronics and IT, now multi-layer printed circuit boards (PCB), HDI PCB, camera modules, copper clad laminate and polypropylene films will be manufactured in India only.
ECMS has received good response from both domestic and global companies. The investment of Rs 1.15 lakh crore is the largest investment commitment ever in India’s electronics sector.
Talking about the economic and industrial impacts of these schemes, apart from manufacturing, the schemes will also create opportunities for high-skilled jobs in research and development. Also, the country’s dependence on imports will reduce and the prices of products in the domestic market will also reduce.
