Bhubaneswar, October 30 (). Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and national spokesperson Dr. Sambit Patra launched a scathing attack on the Congress party on Thursday.
He criticized the Congress over reports of senior leader Vidhu Bhushan Das singing Bangladesh’s national anthem ‘Amar Sonar Bangla’ at a Congress meeting held in Assam’s Shribhoomi district.
Speaking at a press conference held in Bhubaneswar, Sambit Patra said that the incident took place during the Congress Seva Dal meeting in Sribhoomi on October 27, where the meeting was started with the national anthem of Bangladesh. He called it an example of ‘Congress’s appeasement politics and its desperation to appease illegal infiltrators’.
The BJP leader said that we have no objection to Rabindranath Tagore or his songs. He was a great poet and Nobel laureate who composed the national anthems of both India and Bangladesh, but the question is not who wrote the song, but what message does the Congress party want to send by singing the national anthem of Bangladesh on Indian soil?
He alleged that the Congress party was insulting the pride of the country by giving legitimacy to infiltrators and doing vote bank politics. Patra said that the purpose of this action of Congress is to get votes by appeasing the illegal infiltrators in Assam and other North-Eastern states. This is an insult to national pride.
Sambit Patra also said that many senior Congress leaders were present in this meeting, who supported this act. He raised the question whether the Congress Party is now putting its political interests above India’s borders and sovereignty?
BJP spokesperson sought clarification from the Congress leadership on this and said that Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi should give a clear stand to the country on this issue. Will they condemn this incident or justify it?
Patra also alleged that the Congress party is continuously opposing policies like SIR to provide protection to infiltrators. He said that this is the old policy of Congress, trying to return to power through appeasement.
Sambit Patra said that Congress should understand that “India’s politics will be run on the basis of Indianness, and not on foreign national anthems and appeasement of infiltrators.
