Palamu, October 31 (IANS). A sensation spread over the murder of a newborn by slitting his neck in Palamu Town police station area of Jharkhand. The severed head of the newborn has been recovered from a bush at a short distance from the cremation ground at Tedhwa Bridge, while the torso has not been found yet.
Local people are calling the incident an act related to tantra-mantra or superstition. Police is investigating all aspects.
As soon as information was received about the severed head of the newborn, Town police station in-charge Jyoti Lal Rajwar reached the spot with the police force. The severed head has been recovered and sent to Medini Rai Memorial Medical College. The station in-charge said that prima facie it appears to be the head of a three to four day old newborn.
Police had received information about heads being thrown at around 8 pm on Thursday night. Due to fresh traces of blood found on the neck of the child, it is suspected that the incident might have been committed on Thursday evening itself.
After the incident, the police have started a search operation in the surrounding areas, cremation grounds, river banks and bushes. Also, the records of all the hospitals and nursing homes of the district are being scrutinized to find out at which places children were born in the last few days.
Police hope that the true nature of the incident will become clear after the recovery of the torso. There is an atmosphere of fear and anger in the area. Police have appealed to the people to avoid rumors and cooperate in the police investigation. He said that the matter is being investigated and soon the identity of the newborn and the truth of the incident will be revealed.
Police say that this matter is very serious and a special team has been formed to solve it on priority basis.
