New Delhi. India has set three Guinness World Records under the ‘Healthy Women, Empowered Families Campaign’, achieving a historic milestone in empowering the health of women and families. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday said the achievement reflects the country’s strong commitment towards preventive healthcare and women’s welfare. These records include the highest number of registrations on the healthcare platform in a month (over 3.21 crore), the highest number of registrations for online breast cancer screening in a week (over 9.94 lakh) and the highest number of registrations for online vital signs checking at the state level in a week (over 1.25 lakh). The campaign, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ran from September 17 to October 2, coinciding with Nutrition Month. Its objective was to improve the health and nutrition of women, adolescent girls and children, promote early detection of diseases and access to essential health services. Prime Minister Modi had said on this occasion that our mothers and sisters are the foundation of the progress of our nation. If a mother is healthy then the whole family remains healthy.
The campaign ensured extraordinary public participation covering every district of the country. Under this, more than 19.7 lakh health camps were organized and more than 11 crore people participated in various health services. More than 20 ministries, central government institutions, medical colleges and private organizations participated in this nationwide initiative. It became a ‘whole of government effort’ with the participation of MPs, MLAs and administrative officials.
Additionally, more than 5 lakh Panchayati Raj representatives, 1.14 crore students, 94 lakh women from self-help groups and more than 5 lakh community forum members played an active role, making it one of the largest public health movements in the world.
At the health impact level, 1.78 crore hypertension, 1.73 crore diabetes, 69.5 lakh oral cancer and 62.6 lakh antenatal care checks were conducted during the campaign. Also, 1.43 crore vaccinations were administered, 1.51 crore anemia tests were conducted and more than 85.9 lakh women were screened for tuberculosis and 10.2 lakh women were screened for sickle cell disease. Besides this, more than 2.14 crore people participated in health counseling and sessions.
More than 2.68 lakh Nikshay Mitras were registered with the help of ‘My Bharat’ volunteers to strengthen India’s fight against Tuberculosis (TB). This campaign not only sets a new benchmark in the field of healthcare, but also proves to be a decisive step towards a healthy, empowered and inclusive future of India.
