The day of November 2, 2025 will be written in golden letters in the history of Indian women’s cricket. On this day, India’s women’s cricket team achieved the honor of becoming world champion under the leadership of captain Harmanpreet Kaur. Captain Harmanpreet’s name will now be written in golden letters in the same way as Kapil Dev’s is written in men’s cricket. At one time it seemed like a pipe dream because after losing three consecutive league matches, it was very difficult for India to even reach the semi-finals but the daughters of India gave their best with patience and Indian women’s cricket got this unprecedented success.
Today this great achievement is being discussed in every home. Every Indian celebrated the victory in the Women’s World Cup in the same way as they did after winning the 1983 Men’s World Cup. There is joy everywhere on the unprecedented performance of daughters, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also mentioned this in his rallies for Bihar assembly elections. The stories of struggle of all the daughters of the winning team are being presented to the society through media so that future daughters who want to make a career in sports can be inspired. Our daughters have succeeded in breaking the dominance of countries like Australia and England in women’s cricket.
The visionary thinking and role of Jay Shah, the current President of ICC and former President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, has been very important in taking Indian women’s cricket to these heights. Women’s cricket has received the biggest boost during her tenure. For the first time during Jai Shah’s tenure, the pay scale of women cricket players was made at par with that of male players. It is worth remembering that in 2005, these women players used to get only one thousand rupees as match fee. IPL league for women was started during the tenure of Jay Shah. In order to provide more and more playing and practice opportunities for the women’s cricket team, the number of bilateral series with other countries was continuously increased. The results of the efforts made to promote women’s cricket under the chairmanship of Jay Shah are now visible. The year 2025 is golden for Indian women’s cricket because this year India has created history by winning two World Cups, first the Indian team won the Under-19 title and now it has succeeded in winning the World Cup.
Women cricket players who never received match fees commensurate with their hard work are today being showered with awards. BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia said that the board will give a cash prize of Rs 51 crore to the women’s cricket team as an honour. Himachal Pradesh government has announced to give one crore rupees and government job to team member Renuka Singh Thakur. Madhya Pradesh government will give a cash award of Rs 1 crore to fast bowler Kranti Gaur. ICC has announced to give a prize of Rs 40 crore to the team along with the trophy. The Uttar Pradesh government has promoted Diti Sharma, who gave a memorable performance in the World Cup, with immediate effect. Surat’s industrialist Rajya Sabha MP Govind Dholakia has announced to give diamond jewelery and solar panels to all the members of the Indian team.
It is believed that after this victory, a big change will also be seen in the coming times that investors and advertisers from big companies will be available for the Indian women’s cricket team. New sports talents will emerge in the future. This victory is a historical turning point and an inspiration for the coming generations.
The story of victory will remain incomplete if Indian women’s team coach Amol Majumdar is not mentioned. Amol’s role is commendable. Amol’s sports career started in the 1990s when legends like Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman were on the field, due to which his cricket career did not progress much and he remained limited to Ranji only. As the coach of the women’s cricket team, Amol gave the women players the courage, strength and determination to fight. The women’s cricket team also did not disappoint them and presented the Vishwa Vijay trophy as Gurudakshina.
One thing to keep in mind in this noise of victory celebrations is that victory celebrations fade away after some time. To maintain their enthusiasm and joy, one has to develop the habit of continuously winning and striving for victory.
