The stock market had a slow start on Thursday amid mixed global cues. The Sensex opened at 84,525.89, showing a marginal rise from its previous close of 84,466.51. Then it suddenly came down to 84,253. After some sluggish trading, the 30-share Bombay Stock Exchange index gained momentum to reach 84,803. Like the Sensex, the National Stock Exchange’s Nifty (NSE Nifty) also changed its course. The index opened at 25,906, slightly above its previous close of 25,875 and then quickly gained momentum to reach 25,975.
Any major development in the US affects Asian and Indian markets. Most Asian markets also gained after President Donald Trump signed a funding bill to end the 43-day lockdown, the longest in US history. Japan’s Nikkei was trading 153 points higher at 51,217, while South Korea’s Kospi index also rose 30 points to 4180. Gift Nifty also recorded a gain of 130 points. With the end of the US lockdown, the effect of this boom in Asian markets was clearly visible on the Indian market as well and Sensex and Nifty started rising rapidly.

Talking about the top gainers during the stock market rally, in the large-cap category, Asian Paints shares (3.70%), ICICI Bank shares (2.20%) and Tata Steel shares (1.80%) were trading with gains. Apart from this, in the mid-cap category, Ashok Leyland shares (6%), Biocon shares (3.80%), Glenmark shares (3.60%), Prestige shares (3.30%) and Tata Com shares (2.40%) were trading with gains. Talking about small-cap category, shares of Preqwire (16%) and TV Select (15%) jumped.
