New Delhi. All India Congress Committee (AICC) has announced the names of its official candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha Biennial and Bye-Elections 2026. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has given his final approval to the candidature of seven prominent faces of the party for the Upper House (Council of States) from different states. Party’s Organization General Secretary K.C. In this list released under the signature of Venugopal, along with national level leaders, regional equations and loyal faces have been given prominence. The inclusion of the name of the Congress President himself in this list is being considered as the most shocking and big political development. According to the press release, Congress has fielded three candidates from Karnataka, the most important state of South India. The first name in this is that of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge himself, who will contest the Rajya Sabha elections from Karnataka. Apart from him, party’s firebrand leader and national spokesperson Pawan Kheda and Mansoor Ali Khan have also been awarded Upper House ticket from Karnataka. Through this strategic step, Congress has made every effort to strengthen its top leadership in Karnataka as well as to maintain linguistic and social balance.
Talking about the Hindi belt and other major states, Congress from Madhya Pradesh has once again expressed great confidence in its senior woman leader and former MP Meenakshi Natarajan. At the same time, by fielding the party’s current Rajya Sabha MP from Marudhara i.e. Rajasthan, Neeraj Dangi, the high command has maintained its faith in the Dalit face and experience. Apart from this, it has been decided to send Praveen Chakraborty, head of the party’s data analytics department, to the Upper House from Tamil Nadu, another important state in South India. Talking about the tribal dominated state of Jharkhand, Congress has given preference to the youth by declaring its national secretary Pranab Jha as the Rajya Sabha candidate.
After the release of this official list, election activities have intensified in the respective states. Organization general secretary K.C. released this list from the Congress headquarters at 24 Akbar Road, New Delhi. Venugopal clarified that the names of all the candidates have been finalized after intensive discussions between the local leadership and the party high command so as to strengthen the party in the upcoming parliamentary battles. To ensure the victory of these candidates as per the mathematics of assembly seats in all the states, Congress has also instructed its MLAs and regional strategists to be on alert mode.
