Bihar election results have made it clear that Rahul Gandhi’s “Voter Adhikar Yatra”, which covered large parts of Bihar earlier this year, could not make any electoral gains on the ground. Congress’s hopes have been dashed and questions are being raised as to why such a huge roadshow and message campaign ultimately could not translate into votes.
1,300 km route of the journey – could not get even a single seat
The journey started from Sasaram to Patna, covering around 25 districts and 1,300 kilometres. Congress was confident that this direct public relations campaign would impact 110 seats. But the counting shows that not a single seat is going in favor of Congress.
Of the 61 seats on which Congress was contesting, it was only
There is a slight lead only in Valmikinagar, Kishanganj, Manihari and Begusarai.
This performance is in sharp contrast to the yatra-linked success in the 2024 Lok Sabha and 2023 Telangana elections.
NDA’s tsunami and complete defeat of Congress’s message.
NDA has made a big and decisive lead in Bihar:
BJP – ahead in 91 seats
JDU — ahead in 80 seats (both fought on 101-101 seats)
LJP (Chirag Paswan) — Leading in 22 out of 28
RLM – 3 out of 6
HAM — 5 out of 6
These figures show that Rahul Gandhi’s allegations and warnings about “vote theft” did not make an impact on the public. The Congress had described the electoral list amendment as a conspiracy of “large-scale vote theft” and projected the yatra as a “save democracy movement”.
But the Election Commission found Gandhi’s allegations false, and the public also did not believe the Congress’s narrative.
Internal breakdown of Grand Alliance and weak strategy of Rahul’s team
Several problems became apparent during the election campaign:
1. Congress’s hesitation regarding CM face
Congress was not comfortable in openly accepting Tejashwi Yadav as the CM face. This sent a message of disunity in the Grand Alliance.
2. Severe lack of coordination
Congress and RJD failed to give a united message.
The campaign remained scattered at the ground level.
3. The glow of the journey gradually faded
The enthusiasm that was visible in the beginning disappeared in the final stages.
Congress booth leadership appeared weak in many districts.
4. “Friendly fight” and internal factionalism
On many seats, opposition parties ate away each other’s votes.
Rahul Gandhi’s story did not reach the voters.
Overall result: The public did not buy the Congress story.
Congress is not yet making an official assessment of its defeat, but the initial results are clear:
Rahul Gandhi’s visit was not effective
The message of “vote theft” did not reach the public
Grand alliance’s strategy remained scattered
NDA’s social and political ground hold proved to be very strong.
Voters in Bihar have expressed confidence in the stability, local leadership and organizational strength of the NDA rather than the Congress narrative.
