Nitish Kumar took oath as the Chief Minister of Patna and became the Chief Minister of Bihar for the 10th time. Apart from him, Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Sinha took oath as Deputy CMs. Many senior NDA leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah were present at the ceremony.

Vijay Chaudhary, Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Shravan Kumar, Mangal Pandey, Dilip Jaiswal, Ashok Chaudhary, Leshi Singh, Madan Sahni, Nitin Nabin, Ram Kripal Yadav, Santosh Kumar Suman, Sunil Kumar, Mohammad Zama Khan, Sanjay Singh Tiger, Arun Shankar Prasad, Surendra Mehta, Narayan Prasad, Rama Nishad, Lakhendra Kumar Roshan, Shreyashi Singh, Dr. Pramod Kumar, Sanjay Kumar, Sanjay Kumar Singh, in Bihar cabinet. Deepak Prakash took oath as Minister of State.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at the historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna, where his swearing-in ceremonies were held in 2005, 2010 and 2015. It was on this ground that Jayaprakash Narayan had called for “total revolution” in his speech in 1974.

Many Chief Ministers of NDA ruled states were also present at the swearing-in ceremony. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami among others were present.

Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and LJP (RLD) chief Chirag Paswan, among others, attended the function held at Gandhi Maidan.

Nitish Kumar was first elected as the leader of JDU legislative party in the meeting held with new MLAs at his official residence in Patna on Wednesday. Before the formation of the new government under his leadership in the state today, he was also unanimously elected leader of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) legislature party.

Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha were also elected as the leader and deputy leader of the BJP legislature party respectively during the meeting held at the BJP state headquarters.

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, who was appointed as the central observer for the election of the legislature party leader in Bihar, proposed the names of the two leaders and the remaining MLAs supported the proposal.

The 2025 Bihar Assembly elections were being considered as a litmus test for Nitish Kumar, who has managed to revolve Bihar politics around him in every election in the last 20 years.

Nitish Kumar, 74, has been the chief minister since November 2005, with a brief gap of nine months in 2014–15.

Janata Dal (United) supremo Nitish Kumar has staked claim to form the government in Bihar after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won 202 assembly constituencies.

He met Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan yesterday and submitted his resignation from the post of Chief Minister.

The NDA registered a historic landslide victory in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, winning 202 out of 243 seats, while the Grand Alliance could secure only 35 seats. The ruling alliance secured a three-fourth majority in the 243-member Bihar Assembly, which is the second time the NDA crossed the 200-seat mark in the state elections. In 2010, it won 206 seats.

In the NDA, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 89 seats, Janata Dal (United) 85, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) (LJPRV) 19, Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) (HAMS) five and Rashtriya Lok Morcha four.

Among opposition parties, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) won 25 seats, Indian National Congress won six, Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) (Liberation [सीपीआई (एमएल) (एल)] Two, Inclusive Party of India (IIP) one and Communist Party of India (Marxist) [सीपीआई (एम)] Won one seat.

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) won five seats, while Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) won one seat.

Bihar Assembly elections were held in two phases on 6 and 11 November. Bihar witnessed a historic 67.13 percent voter turnout, the highest since 1951, with women voters outnumbering men (71.6 percent vs. 62.8 percent).
