The immersion of the idols of Lord Ganesha continues on Sunday across Maharashtra, thousands of devotees gathered to bid farewell to other Ganesh idols including Lalbagcha Raja amidst the morning rain at Girgaon Chowpatty in Mumbai.
In Maharashtra, while bid farewell to Bappa on a large scale, there was also news of accidents from some places. One person was killed and five others were injured after coming in contact with electric wire during the Ganesh statue immersion journey on Khairani Road in Sakinaka area. According to the news received from Palghar, three people were swept away during the Ganesh statue immersion, although they were rescued.
During the immersion procession, a helicopter of the Indian Coast Guard and a Mumbai Police drone maintained aerial surveillance.
Officials said that the procession to take the statues of major public Ganesh mandals for immersion started on Saturday and continued overnight on the occasion of Anant Chaturdashi and continued throughout the night. These statues reached the beach in the early hours of Sunday, after which the process of immersion started.
At least half a dozen Ganpati idols of public divisions including Lalbagcha Raja are being immersed at Girgaon Chowpatty and it is likely to take some time to complete.
Efforts are on to take the idol of Lalbagcha Raja to a specially constructed platform and then it will be taken to deep sea for immersion.
Anant Ambani, the youngest son of industrialist Mukesh Ambani, was also present on the beach to bid farewell to Lalbagcha Raja.
Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti, along with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, strictly monitored the immersion on Girgaon Chowpatty.
An official had earlier reported that the Mumbai Police was alerted after receiving that threatening message on Thursday, claiming that 14 terrorists had entered the city with 400 kg of RDX in 34 vehicles.
Around 25,000 police personnel were deployed to maintain law and order during the immersion procession.

Local police officials said the incident took place at around 10.45 am on Khairani Road in Sakinaka area, when an electrical statue of Taraganapati touched, causing six devotees standing near the idol.
An official said that some local people took the injured to the nearby private medical centers and one of them was taken to the Municipal Corporation -run Seven Hills Hospital.
The municipal official said that the doctors of Seven Hills Hospital declared Beenu Sukumaran Kumaran (36) dead. The official said that five others – Subhanshu Kamat (20), Tusshar Gupta (20), Dharmaraj Gupta (49), Karan Kanaujia (14) and Anush Gupta (6) were admitted to Paramount Hospital and their condition is stated to be stable.
At the same time, according to the news received from Palghar, three people were swept away in the Gulf during the Ganesh statue immersion, which were rescued.
