According to Department of Telecommunications sources, downloads of the Sanchar Sathi app increased 10 times on Tuesday. Its average daily downloads have increased from 60,000 to almost 600,000. Interestingly, this surge in downloads comes at a time when many opposition leaders are opposing mandatory pre-installation of the app on all mobile phones. They are criticizing the order of the Department of Telecommunications for this.

Opposition leaders allege that this is a kind of “spying” and violates the privacy of citizens. “The Sanchar Sathi app is receiving very positive feedback from the public,” said a source in the Department of Telecommunications, requesting anonymity. The number of daily downloads has increased tenfold from an average of 60,000 to almost 600,000.
How many people have downloaded Sanchar Sathi app?
According to official data, about 15 million people had downloaded the app even before the order was issued. The Department of Telecommunications has directed mobile manufacturers and importers to ensure that their Sanchar Saathi app, which provides fraud alerts, is included in all new mobile devices and is available through software update in existing mobile devices.
What instructions were given to mobile companies?
According to the Department of Telecommunications’ directive on November 28, within 90 days of the issue of the order, all mobile phones manufactured or imported in India will be required to have the Sanchar Sathi app. All mobile phone companies must submit a compliance report to the Department of Telecommunications within 120 days.
Is it necessary to have Sanchar Saathi app in mobile phone?
On the other hand, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has clarified that users can remove the Sanchar Sathi app whenever they want. The user is free to decide whether he wants to keep the app or delete it.
