New Delhi, December 5 (IANS). Yellow flower sunflower (Helianthus annuus) is not only the beauty of gardens, but is also a treasure of health full of medicinal properties. There are many benefits from its consumption.
Sunflower is also called ‘Suryamukhi’ in Ayurveda and its flowers, seeds, leaves and oil have been used for centuries in the treatment of physical and mental problems.
Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India provides information about the precious gift of nature. Elements called triterpene glycosides are found in abundance in sunflower flowers, which are very effective in fighting bacteria, reducing pain and reducing swelling (anti-inflammatory). Apart from this, it is also rich in antioxidants, which keep the heart and thyroid healthy.
Consuming sunflower flower, which is rich in medicinal properties, provides many benefits. It provides relief from joint pain, arthritis and body stiffness. Strengthens the digestive system along with removing the problems of constipation, flatulence, gas and worms. Sunflower is also a boon for the skin. Consumption of its oil paste or seeds is beneficial in boils, itching and skin diseases.
Ayurvedacharya explains that decoction or tea of sunflower leaves helps in reducing fever. This flower is also good for heart and thyroid. Being rich in antioxidants, it is beneficial in heart disease and thyroid problems. Sunflower seeds are also rich in omega-6 fatty acids, vitamin E, magnesium, selenium and zinc.
Sunflower oil is also used in food and it increases good cholesterol in the body. Experts say daily consumption of sunflower flowers is very beneficial. However, advice from an Ayurvedacharya must be taken before consumption.
