Disruption in IndiGo flights continued for the seventh day with the airline canceling over 250 flights from Delhi and Bengaluru airports on Monday. Sources gave this information. Sources said that a total of 134 flights were canceled from Delhi airport, including 75 departing and 59 arriving flights.
He said that similarly IndiGo canceled 127 flights from Bengaluru airport, which included 62 departing and 65 arriving flights. In another development, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Sunday granted more time to IndiGo Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Peter Elbers and Accountability Manager Istro Porqueras to respond to the ‘show cause notice’ issued to them over the flight disruptions.
A senior official said that both have been given additional time of 24 hours to file their replies, i.e. till 6 pm on Monday. For the last several days, there has been massive disruption in IndiGo’s flight services, due to which thousands of passengers have to face problems. It is in this background that the regulator had issued a show cause notice. The official said that in the notice issued on Saturday, Albers and Porqueras were asked to reply by Sunday evening.
However, the deadline for filing the reply has been extended on the request of both the officers. The airline, partly owned by Rahul Bhatia, is facing sharp criticism from both the government and passengers for canceling hundreds of flights since December 2. The company cited the new flying duties of pilots and changes in rules for this. Lakhs of passengers were stranded at airports across the country due to cancellation of flights.
