Lucknow, Amrit Vichar: There is a possibility of 12 to 15 crore devotees coming to the Magh Mela going to be held in Prayagraj. The fair will run from January 3 to February 15. This time, the fair is being extensively expanded to make it more convenient so that the saints, mahatmas and devotees coming in large numbers do not face any inconvenience.
The length of the bathing ghat is being increased from two kilometers to 2.8 kilometers by the year 2024. The number of sectors is being increased from 5 to 7, fair area is being increased from 750 hectares to 800 hectares, parking lots are being increased from 30 to 42, pontoon bridges are being increased from 6 to 7 and the number of institutions is being increased from 4599 to 4900.
Chief Secretary SP Goyal on Monday held a review meeting of the preparations for Magh Mela-2026 to be held in Prayagraj. Senior officials of fair administration, public works department, irrigation, electricity, health, police and other related departments participated in the meeting.
The Chief Secretary gave clear instructions that all the work related to Magh Mela should be completed. He said that there should be continuous on-site supervision by higher officials and wherever work is lagging behind, immediate progress should be brought there. All construction and arrangements should be completed as per the quality standards and within the stipulated time frame; negligence will not be tolerated at any level. Special care should be taken to ensure that the visiting saints, mahatmas, pilgrims and devotees do not face any kind of inconvenience.
Special arrangements will be made for cleanliness and medicine
Making special arrangements for cleanliness, 23700 community toilets, 2000 urinals, 6 community container toilets, 25 hopper-tippers, 12 compactors and 8000 dustbins will be installed in the fair area for garbage collection. 3300 people will be deployed 24 hours for cleaning and sanitation work of the fair area. Under the medical system, two hospitals with 20 beds each, 12 first aid centres, 50 ambulances, 5 Ayurvedic and 5 homeopathic hospitals will be functional from December 25. The vector control unit is already operational.
