The country’s first urban ropeway is being built for the devotees visiting Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi. With this, the distance from Varanasi Railway Station in the cantonment to the temple will be covered in just 16 minutes. Right now devotees have to face problems like crowd and traffic jams, but in future these problems will almost end. Beautiful views of the temple can be enjoyed from the station and the city from the temple.
Nowadays, the journey from Varanasi Railway Station, Cantonment to Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple is difficult. Roads are often congested and crowded, and a journey of about 4 kilometers can take more than half an hour. Due to the narrow streets and dense population of Varanasi, it is impossible to build a flyover or metro here. Therefore, under the dream project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country’s first urban ropeway is being built here.
This ropeway, being built at a cost of ₹ 800 crore, is being seen as the best and safest option. The foundation stone of the ropeway was laid on March 24, 2023, with the initial cost estimated at ₹645 crore, which increased when problems arose. Now the cost has reached ₹800 crore. It is expected that it will open to the general public in May 2026. Before the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor was built, only 5,000 devotees used to visit the temple every day, but after the construction of the corridor, this number has crossed 2,00,000.
10 people can sit together
The ropeway is being built mainly to provide better transportation facilities to the devotees. 10 people will be able to sit at a time in a ropeway cabin. About 148 ropeways will become operational, eliminating the need to wait for a long time for one’s turn. After the ropeway is operational, devotees will be able to reach the temple after deboarding the train and boarding the cabin, which will eliminate the problem of traffic jams and overcrowding.
This journey will take 16 minutes.
This distance will be covered in just 16 minutes, which is a huge thing in itself. This journey will not only be easy but will also be very beautiful. Devotees will reach the temple seeing the beautiful view of the city.
