Mumbai, April 27 (IANS). Indian company Sun Pharma has decided to acquire Organon, one of the largest companies in America’s pharma sector, for $ 11.75 billion (Rs 1.10 lakh crore in Indian Rupees). This is considered to be the biggest acquisition ever in the history of the Indian pharma sector.
It is an all-cash deal in which Sun Pharma will acquire 100 per cent stake in Organon for $14 per share, the company said in an exchange filing.
The company said the acquisition is in line with its strategy to grow the innovative claims business and strengthen its presence across established brands and branded generic drugs.
The deal will also help Sun Pharma enter the biosimilar segment as a major global player.
Following this acquisition, the combined entity is expected to be among the top 25 global pharmaceutical companies with revenues of approximately $12.4 billion, further strengthening its position in the women’s health and biosimilars space.
New Jersey-based Organon operates in women’s health, biosimilars and established pharmaceutical markets, with a portfolio of more than 70 products and a presence in more than 140 countries.
The transaction, approved by the boards of both companies, is expected to close in early 2027, subject to regulatory approval and the approval of Organon’s shareholders.
Sun Pharma plans to raise funds for the deal through a mix of internal earnings and debt.
For the year ending December 2025, Organon reported revenues of $6.2 billion and adjusted EBITDA of $1.9 billion.
At 10:50 am, Sun Pharma shares were at Rs 1,741, up about 7.5 per cent.
