E-commerce company Amazon has recalled more than 200,000 power banks. This means that the power banks sold are being recalled. According to reports, the recall was initiated after incidents of power banks causing fire, property damage and injuries. These power banks must be returned to customers in the United States only. The product, which is sold under the name Inui BI-B41, is available only on the Amazon US website and is priced at around $18 (approximately ₹1,600 Indian Rupees).
11 incidents of fire due to power bank
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission has found that there have been 11 incidents of fire caused by this power bank. These incidents have resulted in injuries and property damage. Consumers can check whether their power bank is included in the recall or not by using their serial number. The company has recalled only the BI-B41 models with serial numbers 000G21, 000H21, 000I21, and 000L21. Customers who own this model are advised to stop using it immediately and keep the power bank in a dry and cool place. The Safety Commission says that the lithium-ion battery present in this power bank has a high risk of fire and should be disposed of separately from other batteries.
Be careful if you see these signs on your power bank
If the power bank is swollen, stop using it immediately.
If the power bank is overheating while charging your phone or other devices, turn it off.
If the power bank smells bad, stop using it.
If you find any crack or other defect in your power bank, stop using it. Such problems make its use unsafe.
