New Delhi, December 18 (IANS). The Prime Minister’s Office said on Thursday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the closing ceremony of the second WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine on Friday.
The three-day event taking place at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi showcases India’s growing leadership and pioneering initiatives in shaping a global, science-based and people-centred traditional medicine agenda.
“Prime Minister Modi has consistently emphasized on mainstreaming traditional medicine and Indian knowledge systems through research, standardization and global collaboration,” the PMO said.
During the event, the Prime Minister will launch several important AYUSH initiatives including My AYUSH Integrated Services Portal (MAISP), a master digital portal for the AYUSH sector. He will also unveil the AYUSH Mark, which is being seen as a global benchmark for the quality of AYUSH products and services.
Additionally, PM Modi is expected to release a WHO technical report on training in yoga and a book titled ‘From Roots to Global Reach: 11 Years of Transformation in AYUSH’.
To symbolize the global resonance of India’s traditional medicinal heritage, they will also release a commemorative postage stamp on Ashwagandha.
The PM will honor the recipients of the Prime Minister’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Promotion and Development of Yoga for 2021-2025, which recognizes their continued dedication towards Yoga and its global promotion.
These awards reaffirm Yoga as a timeless practice for balance, well-being and harmony, contributing to a healthy and strong new India.
The Prime Minister will also visit the Traditional Medicine Discovery Space—an exhibition that showcases the diversity, depth and contemporary relevance of traditional medical knowledge systems from India and around the world.
The summit, which is being held from December 17 to 19, is jointly organized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of AYUSH. Its theme is ‘Restoring Balance: The Science and Practice of Health and Wellness’.
The summit witnessed in-depth discussions among global leaders, policy makers, scientists, practitioners, indigenous knowledge holders and civil society representatives on advancing equitable, sustainable and evidence-based health systems.
