Congress’ Odisha unit president Bhakta Charan Das on Wednesday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to publicly apologize after a Delhi court refused to take cognizance of the ED’s charge sheet against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald money laundering case.
In a relief to Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and five others, a Delhi court refused to take cognizance of the Enforcement Directorate’s charge sheet filed against them in the National Herald money laundering case, saying the agency’s investigation is based on a personal complaint and not an FIR.
“The BJP and its top leaders, including the Prime Minister and Shah, were targeting Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald issue, which demoralized Congress workers across the country,” Das told reporters.
Appreciating the court’s remarks, the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president said Modi and Shah should tender a public apology to the nation for misusing the ED to defame the Gandhi family. He said, ‘If the Prime Minister and the Home Minister are ashamed to apologize publicly, then they should resign.’
Meanwhile, several Odisha Congress leaders and workers were detained after they clashed with security personnel during a protest march towards the state BJP headquarters over the National Herald issue. Das also said that Congress workers will stage a protest in every district of Odisha on Thursday.
