New Delhi, December 21 (IANS). Electric vehicles (EVs) are giving a new direction to India’s development. These are not only helping in environmental protection but are also playing an important role in employment generation. Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh said this while attending the ‘EV Expo’ organized at Bharat Mandapam on Sunday.
He visited several stalls at the exhibition and appreciated the growing strength of Indian EV companies in this sector, calling it an important step towards India’s clean, green and sustainable future.
While talking to the media, Dr. Singh said that from the beginning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has tried to make people aware about environmental protection and e-mobility. He said that India is not only taking advantage of these global innovations but also becoming an active partner towards clean energy and sustainable transportation.
The Minister cited the reforms taking place in the clean energy ecosystem and the recently passed Peace Bill, 2025, which aims to promote private participation in nuclear energy. He said electric mobility is also aligned with the global clean energy transition and is helping India meet its development and environmental goals.
The minister also said that electric vehicles are much easier to drive than conventional vehicles, and require less physical effort. He said that the use of electric vehicles is now increasing in ambulances, e-rickshaws, passenger vehicles and commercial use, due to which they are being used for all types of transportation needs.
He said, “Electric mobility is not just important in terms of transportation, environment and clean energy, but it is also emerging as a new powerhouse of entrepreneurship, employment and livelihood, especially for the youth. The ecosystem that has been created under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi has given the youth an opportunity to start EV related businesses with small investments. The technical and financial support of the government is helping these businesses grow rapidly.”
He stressed the need to make the youth more aware about the opportunities in the EV sector and said that electric mobility can be an inspiring path towards innovation, self-reliance and sustainable development.
