Janata Dal (United) chief spokesperson and Legislative Council member Neeraj Kumar said on Friday about the process of vacating the government bungalow of former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Rabri Devi located at 10 Circular Road, that this is not politics, but following the law.
Neeraj Kumar, while reacting on the social media platform ‘X’, said that being the leader of opposition in the Legislative Council, Rabri Devi already has a government accommodation allotted in the central pool in her name. Despite this, not vacating the old government bungalow is a blatant misuse of government resources. He said sarcastically, “Rabri ji, you have no shortage of properties – live in Kautilya Nagar or Mahua Bagh, but give up possession of the government bungalow.”
The JD(U) leader said the law is equal for all and maintaining unnecessary possession of government properties in the name of position or politics cannot be justified.
Late Thursday night, news came to light that trees, plants and other household items were taken out from the premises of Rabri Devi’s government bungalow through a pickup van. However, the people present there did not give any clear information regarding where this goods was being taken.
On November 25, 2025, the Building Construction Department of Bihar Government had given notice to former Chief Minister Rabri Devi to vacate the bungalow located at 10 Circular Road. After this, a new government bungalow number 39 located at Harding Road, Patna has been allotted in the name of Rabri Devi. This accommodation has been given to him from the central pool on the basis of the post of Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council.
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) had earlier claimed that the Lalu-Rabri family would not vacate this residence. However, about a month after receiving the notice, the process of vacating it has started.
Rabri residence located at 10 Circular Road, Patna has a special place in the politics of Bihar. Amidst the fear of arrest after the charge sheet was filed against Lalu Yadav in the fodder scam case on 23 June 1997, Lalu resigned from the post of Chief Minister on 25 July 1997 and made his wife Rabri Devi the Chief Minister.
Rabri Devi was allotted this government residence at 10 Circular Road in 2005, which remained the center of political activities of the Lalu family and RJD for almost two decades.
