New Delhi, December 28 (IANS). Tata Group on Sunday paid tribute to its former chairman Ratan Tata on his 88th birth anniversary. On this occasion, his contribution to Indian industry, social service and the country was remembered.
Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran shared an emotional message on LinkedIn, writing, “Happy Birthday, Mr Tata. We miss you a lot. Even today and always.”
He also posted a picture of himself and Ratan Tata taken together from an awards ceremony held in July 2024. Tata Group also shared a post on social media platform X and said that they are remembering Ratan Tata on his birth anniversary.
Ratan Tata led the Tata Group from 1991 to 2012. After this, he also served as interim chairman for some time in 2016-17.
He is credited with transforming the Tata Group from a hundred-year-old Indian company to an international identity. Under his leadership, the Tata Group acquired large foreign companies such as Jaguar Land Rover, Corus and Tetley, thereby expanding Tata’s presence across the world.
Along with business, Ratan Tata was also known for his honest principles, country building and social service. Through Tata Trusts, he gave strong support to education, health, rural development and scientific research.
According to media reports, during his tenure, a large part of the income received from Tata Sons was invested in social service works, which shows the social responsibility of the group.
Even after withdrawing from active management, Ratan Tata remained associated with India’s startup world. He has invested in and mentored many new startups, providing confidence and support to new companies in their early stages.
Tributes were paid to him from across the country, including many political leaders. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that Ratan Tata gave a new direction to Indian industry with honesty and compassion and his life teaches that true success lies in the service of the country.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu described him as a visionary industrialist and a compassionate leader. He said that Ratan Tata’s simplicity and values will continue to inspire future generations.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal also paid tribute, saying Ratan Tata combined innovation with compassion and helped redefine the role of Indian companies in the country’s development.
