New Delhi, January 1 (IANS). Zomato and BlinkIt co-founder and CEO Deependra Goyal on Thursday said their food delivery and quick commerce platforms have recorded record deliveries on New Year’s Eve.
This statement of Goyal has come at a time when some gig workers unions had announced strikes.
Goyal said both the platforms continued to function smoothly on New Year’s Eve with the cooperation of local authorities.
In a post on social media platform
Goyal said, “More than 45 lakh delivery partners of Zomato and BlinkIt delivered more than 75 lakh orders in a single day, which is the biggest record till date. These orders were delivered to more than 63 lakh customers across the country.”
Goyal clarified that the record breaking deliveries were made without giving any special or additional incentives to the delivery partners.
He said that although generally more incentives are given on New Year’s Eve than on other days, this year also there was no difference in the New Year’s Eve campaigns like in previous years.
He expressed his gratitude to the local authorities and ground teams for the prompt coordination and effective enforcement that helped ensure smooth operations during the peak hours.
Goyal also thanked the delivery partners who continued to work despite facing threats, and said their commitment reflects their choice to work with honesty and progress.
Addressing concerns raised over the gig economy, Goyal said that if the system was inherently unjust, it would not have been able to attract and retain such a large workforce.
Goyal said that the gig economy has emerged as one of the largest engines of organized employment generation in India. He further said that its real impact will be seen only over time, as stable income and access to education will help the partners’ families, especially their children, to contribute to the long-term development of the country.
