New Delhi, January 8 (IANS). Rice is an important part of culture and everyday life in India. Be it Khichdi in the morning or plain rice in the afternoon, rice is included in the diet of people of all ages. But, as soon as it comes to weight gain, the first thing people do is remove rice from the plate. In Ayurveda, rice is considered a satvik food. It works to provide energy to the body and keeps the mind calm.
In ancient times, rice was eaten daily, but at that time rice was less processed. Science says that rice contains fiber and natural elements, which help in controlling weight.
Brown Rice:- The upper layer of rice is present in brown rice, which is rich in fiber, vitamin B and minerals. When we eat brown rice it gets digested slowly. Due to this, the stomach remains full for a long time and one does not feel hungry again and again. In science it is called low glycemic load. It does not increase blood sugar nor is it stored as fat in the body. It increases energy.
Red Rice:- Red rice is considered helpful in controlling weight. Its red color is due to the natural antioxidants present in it. These elements reduce inflammation in the body and improve metabolism. When metabolism speeds up, the body also starts using stored fat as energy. According to Ayurveda, red rice is helpful in purifying the blood and balancing body heat, thereby reducing the chances of weight gain.
Black Rice:- Black rice is considered special from both Ayurveda and science point of view. It is also called Forbidden Rice, because in ancient times it was kept only for special people. Black rice is rich in fiber and antioxidants, which keep the stomach full. This reduces calories and speeds up the weight loss process.
Basmati Rice:- Basmati has long grains and has a slightly lower glycemic index than common white rice. It releases sugar slowly in the body. Ayurveda believes that white rice eaten in proper quantity does not increase weight, but it should be taken with pulses, vegetables and salads.
