Tonk District Special Team (DST) has achieved great success under the anti-drug campaign being run in Rajasthan. Police have seized 500 kg of ganja worth about Rs 3 crore which was being supplied from Orissa to Rajasthan. This ganja was to be delivered to smugglers in three districts of the state, but before that the DST team caught the smuggled consignment.
According to the information, this action was taken after 11 pm on Friday night on Jaipur-Kota National Highway-52. Tonk DST team stopped a truck on the basis of suspicious activity and investigated. During initial interrogation, the truck driver and the person accompanying him could not give any satisfactory answer, after which the police became suspicious.
DST in-charge Omprakash said that the police had received information through an informer that a large quantity of ganja was being brought from Orissa to Rajasthan through trucks. Taking the information seriously, a blockade was set up on the highway. Meanwhile, the suspicious truck was stopped and searched.
When the police team thoroughly searched the truck, 500 kg of ganja packed in bundles was recovered from it. Its price in the international market is estimated to be around Rs 3 crore. According to the police, the ganja was brought from Odisha and the plan was to unload it in Hanuman Nagar area of Deoli area. From here it was to be supplied further to other districts of the state.
The police have arrested the truck driver and another person present with him from the spot. Both the accused are being interrogated to find out which gang is active behind this smuggling and in which districts the ganja was to be supplied. Police suspect that it may be part of an organized interstate drug trafficking network.
DST in-charge Omprakash said that the accused may be involved in this type of smuggling for a long time. Many important information is expected to be found in the inquiry. Police are also trying to find out from which route the truck came and how many such consignments have been brought to Rajasthan before.
After the recovery of ganja, the police have seized the truck and a case has been registered under the NDPS Act. Arrest of other accused is also possible in further investigation.
This action is considered to be one of the biggest actions of Tonk Police against drugs so far. Police officials say that the campaign against drug smuggling will continue and such networks will be rooted out.
