Israel has announced renewed attacks targeting Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon, after which once again thousands of people are reported to have fled their homes in search of safer places in the southern parts of the capital Beirut. Despite the recent extension of the ceasefire in Lebanon, there is concern over the current situation. Under these circumstances, United Nations agencies are engaged in providing support to the people displaced due to violent conflict. At the same time, Jeanine-Hannis Plaschart, the UN Special Coordinator in Lebanon, said in a tweet that southern Lebanon is in flames, while the streets of Beirut are blocked with people fleeing their homes, and the suffering is deepening. The current crisis in Lebanon is part of the unrest in the greater Middle East region. On February 28, Israel and the United States bombed Iran, in response to which Iran launched drone and missile attacks on the Gulf countries and Israel. After this, Hezbollah in Lebanon launched rocket attacks on Israel in support of Iran and then Israeli military forces launched a large-scale retaliation there. A ceasefire was implemented between Lebanon and Israel on April 17 under the mediation of the United States, but both The parties have not complied with it completely. Its duration has been extended twice and on May 16, it was extended by 45 days. Emergency, inflationWorld Health Organization (WFPAccording to ), it has been almost three months since the violent conflict erupted in Lebanon, leaving large numbers of people displaced, suffering from food insecurity and resulting in a state of emergency. More than 1 million civilians have been made homeless. According to food security experts, more than 1.2 million people across the country, or nearly a quarter of the population, are not able to get enough food. In view of this, WFP has emphasized the continued availability of relief to deliver humanitarian assistance, which will require unhindered flow of aid supplies and predictable financial resources. Food is available in many areas of Lebanon, but its prices have increased due to the fighting. Vegetable prices have increased by 20 percent while the price of bread has increased by 15 percent. Recently, a shipment of 250 metric tons of flour arrived in Lebanon via Jordan, which is now being provided to about 10 thousand households. Warm meals, cash assistance Amidst the worrying conditions, WFP has stepped up its aid efforts and provided food to more than 7 lakh people Hot meals, ready-to-eat rations and food packets have been provided. 2.15 lakh displaced people have taken shelter in more than 500 shelter centers across the country, to whom necessary support has been provided. In addition, assistance has also been provided to 85 thousand people from host communities and living in remote areas. The UN agency has provided emergency cash support to approximately 500,000 people in Lebanon and provided cash assistance to 100,000 Syrian refugees. Since the beginning of the violent conflict, 24 humanitarian convoys have been deployed to local communities in Lebanon. But availability of support route is a challenge. More than 50 percent of requests have been delayed in getting approved or have had to be postponed due to risks.
