New Delhi, January 12 (IANS). Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said coal will continue to play an important role in the journey to a developed India 2047.

“The Union Minister emphasized that coal will continue to contribute to India’s journey towards a developed India 2047, and will integrate smoothly with green technologies,” the Prime Minister said.
According to an official statement released on Monday, the country has produced the highest ever coal production in the year 2024-25.
Coal production all over India in the year 2024-25 was 1,047.523 million tonnes, while in the year 2023-24 it was 997.826 million tonnes, which is an increase of about 4.98 percent.
Coal supply has also increased from 973.01 million tonnes in FY 2023-24 to 1025.33 million tonnes in FY 2024-25, an increase of about 5.38 percent.
The total coal production in the country has seen a huge jump from 565.77 million tonnes in FY 2013-14 to 1047.52 million tonnes in FY 2024-25.
Further, during 2025 (January-December), the country has produced about 1,042.90 million tonnes of coal, an increase of about 0.23 per cent as compared to the production of about 1,039.62 million tonnes of coal in the same period last year.
At present, coal is the main source of energy, contributing more than 55 percent of India’s primary commercial energy.
Of the total power generation, coal-fired power plants account for about 72 percent, and coal will continue to be an essential part of India’s energy security.
The special thing is that during this period, there has been ample and uninterrupted supply of coal to the consumers as per their requirement and there has been no report of shortage of coal in the country.
