New Delhi, January 24 (IANS). Infosys founder N.R. Narayana Murthy said that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has been a catalytic, generous, visionary and always enabling institution. RBI has developed UPI as a public good, making it affordable, accessible and reliable for the common people.
He said that by making UPI low-cost and easily available to all, RBI has won the trust of common citizens and has played an important role in taking the digital payment system to every section of the country.
During an event organized in Bengaluru, he said that when there are leaders in the country who have big goals and whose intentions are clear, then they have the power to change the country.
Narayana Murthy said that if you want to build an organization with strong values and protect the dignity of every employee, then as a leader you have to be consistent in your words and actions.
He said that values are formed not by speeches but by actions. Right values, discipline, strong leadership and sensitive capitalism take the society and nation forward.
In a conversation at the Center for Digital Public Goods, IIM Bangalore, he shared his insights on the values, governance and institutional decisions driving the digital payments transition in India.
He said that technology becomes obsolete quickly, so it is important to understand and improve it with time.
Narayan Murthy said that till now very few written documents have been made regarding the development of organizations in India, whereas facts like how organizations were formed, what difficulties were faced, shortcomings of leaders, complexity of working in a team and experience of working on new technology are very important.
He told that all this information becomes part of institutional memories and the foundation of India’s progress will rest on this. Murthy said the biggest lesson is to make code public and low-cost. This prevents monopoly and encourages new thinking and innovation.
He said that high quality leaders are needed to drive innovation with a strong foundation.
Narayana Murthy told the students that leaders should live a simple life and avoid ostentation. He said, “You are the leaders of the future and the messengers of sensitive capitalism, who will take the society and the country forward. This will also promote entrepreneurship.”
