According to the Hindu calendar, the last month of the Hindu New Year, i.e. the 12th month, is the month of Phalgun. The month of Phalgun will start from 2nd February and will continue till 3rd March. The month of Phalgun has special significance from natural, scientific and religious point of view. Festivals like Holi and Mahashivratri falling in this month are considered very important. The month of Phalgun starts from 2nd February and ends with Holi on 3rd March. Kharmas and Chaturmas 2026
Kharmas will resume on March 14, 2026, when the Sun will enter Pisces. Kharmas will continue till April 13, 2026. Marriages will not be possible during this period. After this, the wedding season will start again and will continue till the beginning of Chaturmas.
Jyeshtha Adhik Maas (May 17 to June 15): This time, Jyeshtha month is coming twice, so there will be no marriage in the first month. Chaturmas starts from Devshayani Ekadashi and ends on Devuthani Ekadashi.
Tulsi Vivah is performed on the next day of Devuthani Ekadashi, and auspicious activities begin again after that.
In 2026, Devshayani Ekadashi will fall on July 25, 2026, and Devuthani Ekadashi will fall on November 20, 2026. Therefore, no auspicious work will happen between July 25 and November 20, 2026.
Holashtak
Holashtak will start from 24th February. During this period, no auspicious work is done, nor any new item is purchased. Holashtak starts 8 days before Holi.
Doing any auspicious work is prohibited during Holashtak. Holashtak starts 8 days before Holi, on the Ashtami Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Phalgun month, and all auspicious functions like marriage, marriage and mundan are prohibited for these 8 days. Holi is celebrated on the full moon day of the month of Phalgun, and the next day, the first day of Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) of Phalgun, people play with colours. This year, Holi will be celebrated on the night of March 2, and will be played with colors on the morning of March 3.
It is believed that during Holashtak, all the planets are in an aggressive position, hence no auspicious work should be done during this time. There is a possibility of obstacles.
