New Delhi, February 6 (IANS). Poland’s Deputy Foreign Minister Władysław Bartoshevsky praised the positive role played by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the global level. In a special conversation with IANS, he said that PM Modi had stopped Russia from nuclear attack on Ukraine.
Discussing Poland’s cordial relations with India, Bartoshevsky said, “We have very good relations with India and we recognize India’s role in the world.”
He then highlighted the Indian Prime Minister’s role in the Russia-Ukraine war, saying, “As I told in one of my interviews in New Delhi, Prime Minister Modi spoke to President Putin in late 2022 and stopped him from trying to use tactical nuclear devices in Ukraine. This was a positive role that Prime Minister Modi played and that India plays in world affairs, and I hope that will continue.”
Recalling PM Modi’s visit to Poland, Bartoshevsky said, “We signed a strategic partnership agreement with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2024. He came to Poland then as the Prime Minister of India; he was the first Indian PM to visit our country in 45 years. It was a very good visit, and now we have signed a Foreign Trade Agreement (FTA) with the EU, we are also part of it. I have just returned from the Ministry of External Affairs, where we discussed military cooperation, Discussed a number of practical steps related to digital industry cooperation, security issues, IT investment in high-tech, cooperation in space and other things.”
When asked whether India had a more favorable trade deal with the US than other countries, he said, “I think India is a very big economic power. You are now fourth in the world in terms of GDP, and Prime Minister Modi has made it clear that your target is to become the third largest power in the world very soon. India is a very big market; about one and a half billion people live here, and that’s why it is also a very advanced market. Ignoring a country with so much potential. It doesn’t make sense.”
On India-US trade deal, Poland’s Deputy Foreign Minister said, “It is better to have a trade deal than no trade deal, because tariffs are generally not a guarantee of prosperity. If you impose a tariff on something, it is usually the consumer who, in the end, pays that tariff, so I think the lower the tariffs, the better. It is good that India and the US reached an agreement that significantly reduces tariffs.” Was done.”
Sibi George, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had an important meeting with Bartoshevsky in New Delhi on Thursday. In this meeting, the bilateral strategic partnership between the two countries was reviewed and the main goals of the 2024-2028 action plan were discussed.
