Jaipur. Former Chief Minister of Rajasthan and senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot has launched a scathing attack on the Central Government and Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the much talked about Kanhaiyalal murder case of Udaipur. In a series of posts on his official ‘X’ handle, Gehlot has raised serious questions on the slow pace of the NIA investigating the case and the ‘political silence’ of the BJP.
‘Case given to NIA in the night itself, still the family is searching for justice’ Ashok Gehlot targeted Home Minister Amit Shah during his visit to Rajasthan and wrote, “It is expected from you that today you will break your ‘political silence’ and tell when will the family of late Kanhaiyalal ji get justice? NIA under your Home Ministry had taken up this case on the very night of the incident, still why is the family searching for justice?” Gehlot reminded that Rajasthan Police had shown promptness and arrested the criminals within just 4 hours. He alleged that if this case had not been handed over to the NIA and had remained with the Rajasthan Police, the criminals would have been punished by now.
BJP’s ‘lies’ on compensation exposed
The former chief minister also hit back at alleged misleading claims spread by the BJP during the elections. He clarified that the Congress government had given financial assistance of Rs 50 lakh to Kanhaiyalal’s family. Both his sons were provided government jobs.
Gehlot said that BJP misled the public by lying about ‘5 lakh versus 50 lakh’ to win the elections. He demanded that the Home Minister should apologize to the people of Rajasthan for this untruth.
‘Accused BJP worker, hence the delay’
In his statements, Ashok Gehlot also made a serious allegation that the accused in the murder case were active workers of BJP. He said that for this reason, despite this being an ‘open and shut’ case in which there is a video of the murder and a confession, there is a delay in getting the punishment. He raised the question whether the case is not being tried in the fast track court because of the political connections of the accused?
Public accountability: Gehlot said in a warning tone that the people of the country are watching all this. He said that mere speeches will not suffice, the Home Minister will have to answer why the justice process has come to a standstill even after the time has passed from 2022 to 2026 and why the statements of key witnesses have not been recorded yet.
