New Delhi . The controversy has deepened over the speech given by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi during the budget discussion in the Lok Sabha. BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal has written a letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker demanding removal of some words and allegations used by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi from the proceedings of the House. Sanjay Jaiswal has given notice in the letter under Rule 380 of the Procedure and Conduct of Business Rules of the Lok Sabha. He said that during the discussion on the Union Budget on February 11, Rahul Gandhi several times used unparliamentary words and expressions and made baseless allegations against the Prime Minister and the government.
In the letter, Jaiswal has mentioned some statements, which he has described as unparliamentary. These include statements like ‘You sold out India,’ ‘You sold out Mother India,’ ‘Signing a trade deal with the US is shameful’ (page 21), ‘The US trade deal is a ‘shameful’ act’ (page 8), and ‘We (people of India) were fooled by this trade deal’ (page 9).
He said that these words are against the standards recorded in the Parliament book ‘Unparliamentary Expressions (2021)’.
The BJP MP also alleged that Rahul Gandhi made some allegations in the House without prior authentication. He wrote that if these unparliamentary words and allegations are not removed now, they will become part of the permanent proceedings of the Lok Sabha.
Sanjay Jaiswal has requested the Lok Sabha Speaker to remove these words used by Rahul Gandhi from the record and verbatim proceedings under Rule 380.
He said that this is necessary to protect the dignity, authority and reputation of the House.
