Udaipur. In view of the huge crowd of devotees who gathered to have darshan of Lord Eklingnath on the occasion of Mahashivratri, Municipal Corporation Udaipur has issued strict instructions. The Corporation Commissioner has clarified that this time not only fine will be imposed but legal action will also be taken against those using single use plastic during Prasad distribution.

Special monitoring on Kailashpuri route: Every year on Mahashivratri, service stalls are set up by various organizations for the pedestrians going to Eklingji temple in Kailashpuri. The corporation has found that the use of plastic cups, glasses and plates at these stalls creates huge mess on the roads. To stop this, this year the corporation has decided to conduct videography and photography so that the violators can be identified.
provision of heavy fines and punishment
The Municipal Corporation has warned of strict legal provisions citing the notifications of the Central and State Government.
Punishment: Up to 5 years imprisonment under the Environment Protection Act 1986.
Penalty: Fine up to Rs 1 lakh or both imprisonment and fine.
Additional penalty: If the violation continues, an additional fine of Rs 5,000 can also be imposed.
Apart from this, action will also be taken under Section 258 of Rajasthan Municipal Act 2009.
Instructions for stall operators
The Municipal Corporation has appealed that “cleanliness is the true service”. For this, stall operators have been asked to ensure the following arrangements:
Choosing an alternative: Use leaf blades, paper or compostable materials instead of plastic.
Waste Management: It is mandatory to keep big drums or bags of 200 liters at every counter for garbage collection.
Appeal to the devotees: Devotees have also been requested not to throw the empty plates on the road after receiving the Prasad but instead put them in the dustbin.
The Municipal Corporation administration has made it clear that this time no leniency will be shown to those who ignore the rules. The aim of the administration is to make this Mahashivratri ‘Clean and Green Mahashivratri’.
