One was the check post officer, Dheeraj. He was a very honest, content and dutiful person. In this era of corruption, the life of such a person is not easy. There was pressure from all sides to adopt a policy of compromise, big and small people tried to influence him in various ways, but Dheeraj remained firm on his principles. Frequent transfers had become a part of his daily routine, but he never complained.
Once he caught a huge amount of smuggled goods. The owner of the goods was an influential businessman, who had connections with big politicians and officials. At first he tried to tempt Dheeraj and even said that he was ready to pay Rs 50 lakh if he closed his eyes, but Dheeraj was not perturbed at all.
After this, calls started coming from leaders and ministers, pressure was put on him, but he did not listen to anyone. He issued the challan as per the rules and confiscated the entire goods. The matter reached the court, but the case was soon dismissed on the basis of money and influence. On top of that, the result of the anger of the ministers was that Dheeraj had to lose his job also. Even after such huge damage it did not break. His self-respect and honesty were still as strong.
After some time, a big industrialist came to know about this entire incident. He called Dheeraj and, impressed by his loyalty, appointed him with respect to the highest post in his company. Here he not only got a higher salary than before, but also got all the necessary facilities. Dheeraj now becomes more alert and responsible than before. He protects the interests of the owner and takes special care of the rights and welfare of the subordinate employees.
Every month he would hold a meeting of all the employees, in which he would discuss values like duty, honesty, satisfaction and philanthropy. Under his leadership the company started progressing continuously. One day he made the industrialist realize the worthlessness of money and suggested forming a trust for education, medicine and helping the helpless. The industrialist gladly accepted this proposal and made Dheeraj the secretary of the trust. Now a certain portion of the company’s income started being spent on public welfare works. It is rightly said that many people get money, but only those who have the light of honesty and virtue in their life can make good use of it.
