New Delhi, February 16 (IANS). National Almond Day is celebrated every year on 16 February. This day is dedicated to honoring the medicinal properties, taste and health benefits of almonds. Almonds basically grow well in areas with hot and dry climate. It is a nutrient-rich dry fruit, which is rich in vitamin E, magnesium, fiber, protein and healthy fats.
In Ayurveda, almonds are considered among the most heart healthy foods. Almonds can be used in many forms, raw, roasted, in almond milk, almond flour, almond butter, almond oil or porridge. These not only enhance the taste but also provide many health benefits.
According to a research done on almonds, consuming a few almonds daily benefits the heart, brain and entire body and makes the stomach feel full, which helps in weight control.
The monounsaturated fats and fiber present in almonds reduce LDL or bad cholesterol and improve HDL or good cholesterol. This reduces blood pressure, reduces inflammation and reduces the risk of heart disease. Regular consumption of almonds improves heart health and blood vessels also remain healthy.
Almonds are rich in vitamin E and antioxidants, which protect brain cells from oxidative stress and inflammation. It supports neurological health, improves memory and learning. Some studies have found that almonds improve brain function and reduce the decline that occurs with aging. Almonds are beneficial for students as well as elderly people. This sharpens the mind and improves memory.
