New Delhi, February 21 (IANS). Adani Group wants to provide more opportunities to students from Tier-2 and Tier-4 cities, as youth from small towns have determination and dedication and can play an important role in the future growth of the company. This statement was given on Saturday by Karan Adani, Managing Director of Adani Ports and SEZ Limited.
Speaking at the Platinum Jubilee (70th) Foundation Day and 20th National Management Day event organized by the All India Management Association in the national capital, Karan Adani explained about the group’s plans and workforce strategy.
Karan Adani said the group’s main focus is on three key sectors, including energy, logistics and infrastructure including ports and airports.
He described energy in all its forms as the next big opportunity. Also adding that since 2010, the group has been using global bond markets for ratings and funding.
Karan Adani said that the group is currently going through a major transformation and is committed to investing Rs 2 lakh crore in greenfield projects every year.
He emphasized that speed and the ability to scale rapidly are essential for a company to move forward.
“The organization, which has 16 levels from the president to the lowest level, is working to empower lower level employees by giving them more decision-making authority,” he said.
He explained that the group operates the entire port system itself, including equipment operators, truck drivers and maintenance teams.
“This approach was adopted because there was no established system in place and the company had to create its own framework through continuous improvement,” he said.
Karan Adani pointed out that despite India’s population of 1.4 billion, there is still a shortage of skilled human resources.
“To deal with this problem, each project focuses on large-scale local recruitment and planned skill development in the surrounding areas. This not only ensures timely completion of the projects, but also creates employment opportunities for the local youth,” he said.
Throwing light on future workforce goals, Karan Adani said the company wants to reduce the average age of employees, which is currently 38 years, and increase the participation of women, who form 15 per cent of the workforce.
Karan Adani said, “There is a need for a young workforce to adopt more technology and AI.”
He further said that many of the group’s leaders have grown from within, with approximately 80 per cent of them starting as trainees and later becoming CEOs.
