Bhubaneswar, February 25 (IANS). Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of two people who lost their lives when an advertising hoarding collapsed in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday evening.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Chief Minister Majhi has expressed deep grief over the tragic death of Tuna Gowda and Sachidanand Pradhan due to the collapse of a hoarding in Aiginiya area of the city. He also announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each from the Chief Minister Relief Fund (CMRF) for the families of the deceased.
According to reports, a sudden change in the weather due to a nor’wester, accompanied by strong winds and heavy rain, caused problems in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday evening. Due to strong winds, a large advertising hoarding near Eginia Durga Mandap suddenly collapsed, killing two people and damaging many nearby shops.
After the accident, the local people present at the spot rescued the people trapped under the hoarding and took them to the hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
On receiving the information, police and fire service personnel reached the spot and cleared the road which was blocked due to the fallen hoarding. Meanwhile, family members and relatives of the deceased protested by blocking the National Highway in Eginia on Wednesday. He expressed anger over the incident and demanded justice.
The protest led to a traffic jam. However, the jam was later lifted after senior police officers and people from the local administration reached the spot and talked to the grieving families.
The officials assured the families of the deceased of all necessary help and administrative assistance.
