On the lines of Tatkal ticket booking, there will now be a booking of general reservation tickets. This means that after opening the reservation of a train, only those people will be able to book tickets online for the first 15 minutes, the IRCTC users whose base verification has been done. This rule will come into effect from 1 October 2025 which will be for both IRCTC website and mobile app.
The objective of the railway is to prevent rigging in train ticket booking. Railway officials have said that this new rule will be applicable only on the ticket to be booked online. There will be no such restriction for those taking tickets from railway counters. Booking will continue for them as before. Earlier, Indian Railways made Aadhaar verification mandatory for online Tatkal ticket booking in July this year. In fact, ticket agents are very active about Tatkal ticket booking, who used to book tickets earlier and later sold people at high prices. Railways brought this new rule to stop this.
