New Delhi/Ahmedabad, March 5 (IANS) The Congress has formed several state-level committees in Gujarat to coordinate preparations for the local body elections to be held this year. Senior leaders have been tasked with overseeing strategy, campaign operations and election management as the party begins the organizational groundwork.
Party General Secretary KC Venugopal said in a statement on Thursday that the Congress President has immediately approved the proposal to form committees for the local body elections to be held in Gujarat.
According to the notification, the chairman of the strategy committee will be Bharat Singh Solanki. Lalji Desai has been made the vice chairman and Hemang Vasavada has been made the convener. The chairman of the campaign committee will be Rajya Sabha MP Shaktisingh Gohil, while the vice chairman will be Paresh Dhanani and the convenor will be Lok Sabha MP Geniben Thakor.
The Election Management Committee, which will oversee organizational and electoral coordination, will be chaired by Siddharth Patel. Meanwhile, MLA Jignesh Mevani has been made the vice chairman, while senior leader and former minister Bimal Shah will be the convener. The Chairman of the Program Implementation Committee will be Jagdish Thakor, while the Vice Chairman will be Indravijaysingh Gohil and the Convenor will be Himmatsingh Patel.
To formulate the party’s election agenda, the manifesto committee will be chaired by MLA Shailesh Parmar, while the vice-chairman will be Rutwik Makwana and the convener will be Dr. Manish Doshi. Apart from this, the party has also formed committees of three members each to handle communication and publicity.
Speaking to news agency IANS, Shah said that the approval to form the committees has been given by the party’s central leadership and it is an important step in the preparation for the elections. He said that it is very important to form these committees and the high command has approved them. The upcoming local body elections are important for the party’s political strategy in the state.
Shah said that we are very serious about the elections to be held in Gujarat as they will create the environment for the 2027 assembly elections.
According to him, the names of the members were proposed by the state leadership so that maximum participation could be ensured by covering different aspects of the election process. Talking about the panel, Shah said that the Election Management Committee will play an important role in organizational coordination. Election Management Committee is one of the most important committees as it focuses on booth-level planning. Shah further said that the party leadership is paying full attention to the developments in the state.
He said that we are working hard and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi is focusing a lot on Gujarat. It is expected that the committees will meet at least five to six times to review the preparations and election process.
In the local body elections in Gujarat, elections are held for Municipal Corporation, Municipality and Panchayat across the state and as the civic elections approach, political parties have started organizational preparations. The results of these elections are often seen by parties as a sign of grassroots support and organizational strength ahead of major electoral contests in the state.
